Montane – Mens Surge GTX Jacket

The Montane Surge GTX Jacket is a brand new breathable mountain hiking shell for 2016 that offers the very best in GORE-TEX® technology, delivering first class waterproof protection with a clean and comfortable design. This longer length jacket offers plenty of coverage from the rain without feeling bulky and leaves you free to move around with ease, thanks especially to the articulation around the arms that prevents the hem from riding up when lifting or reaching your arms. A nice cut to the jacket gives it a flattering shape and a range of adjustable features allow you to get the right fit for you. Although Montane have kept the styling minimal, resulting in the ultra-low weight of the Surge GTX, they haven’t skimped on the details and little things like the microfleece lining inside the stormflap at the chin make this a really lovely jacket to wear.  

FEATURES

The Montane Surge GTX Jacket is made from 30 denier 3-layer GORE-TEX® ripstop fabric with GORE® C-KNIT™ backing fabric and micro taping on the seams, offering excellent weatherproof protection at a weight of only 371g. The two large hand pockets are raised to give you easy access when wearing a backpack and another smaller inner pocket lets you keep bank cards safe and out of the way. All exterior fastenings feature YKK Aquaguard® water resistant zippers and the jacket comes with a fully adjustable wire-peaked hood, cuffs and hem for a snug fit in the worst weather.

WHEN TO WEAR IT

The Montane Surge GTX Jacket is an all-weather shell that’s light and breathable enough for blue sky afternoons yet packs in the performance you need for maximum comfort when the storm hits. Thanks to its articulated and ergonomic design, and rucksack-compatible pockets, the Surge GTX is an ideal companion for more dynamic mountain hikes and longer treks with all your kit. And because it’s so lightweight and packable it makes a great jacket to have on you at all times, simply stash it away in your bag until needed.

HIGHLIGHTS

For me the GORE® C-KNIT™ Backer Technology was the most impressive part of the Surge GTX, giving you a very soft and comfortable interior fabric that really delivers on breathability and makes the whole jacket much lighter and less bulky than a regular 3-layer shell. I also loved the oversized hand pockets that are big enough to fit in maps, gloves or plenty of snacks to keep you fuelled all day.
